How to Choose the Perfect Wreath

How to Choose the Perfect Wreath

How to Pick the Perfect Wreath for Your Front Door Without Losing Your Mind

Let’s be real, choosing a wreath sounds simple… until you start looking. Suddenly, you’re lost in a world of sizes, shapes, styles, and greenery choices, wondering if your neighbors are secretly judging your taste.

Don’t worry, I’ve got you! Here’s what to keep in mind so your front door gets the glow-up it deserves.

1. Size Matters, as does Shape and Materials

Standard doors are usually about 36 inches wide look best with a round wreath that’s 20-26 inches in diameter—anything smaller might look lost, anything bigger might scream "help, I can’t breathe!"

Oblong wreaths (usually 20-27 inches wide) are great if you like something a little different.

Teardrop swag wreaths (26-30 inches long, 17-24 inches wide) bring a classy, elongated look that makes your door feel taller—kind of like heels, but for your entryway.

Got a double door or an oversized entrance? Go big or go home—larger round wreaths (28-36 inches) or extra-long swags will keep things balanced and well proportioned.

Wreath bases can be many things but the ones I prefer are evergreens and grapevines.  Both are beautiful so you should choose the look you want.

2. Seasonal or All-Year Chic?

Want a seasonal refresh? Spring florals, fall leaves, winter evergreens, and summer blooms have you covered.

Prefer a one-and-done option? A neutral wreath with greenery and subtle accents works year-round, and you won’t have to swap it out every few months.

3. Mother Nature vs. Your Wreath

Exposed to sun, wind, and rain? Go for weather-resistant materials like faux greenery or UV-protected florals.

Covered porch? You can get away with more delicate materials like dried flowers or burlap—just don’t expect them to last through a hurricane.

4. Does Your Wreath Even Match Your Door?

Bright red, navy, or green doors? A neutral or contrasting wreath will pop!

Classic white, black or wood-toned doors? You’ve got more flexibility.  You go bold, soft, or anywhere in between.

Modern home? Try sleek, minimalist greenery.

Cottage vibes? Go full floral and whimsical.

Basically, just don’t let your door and wreath fight for attention. They need to work together like a great outfit!

5. Hanging 101 - Because Gravity is Real

    Over-the-door hanger? Classic and easy.

Command hook? Perfect for renters and commitment-phobes but not good for really hot climates.

Magnetic hanger? Great for glass or metal doors but be sure to get one that supports the weight of your wreath. Shameless plug -I have a video on that.  Click here https://youtube.com/shorts/6KPV3jqiasw?si=MUvb2ceVMW9CipsA

Ribbon? Stylish and beautiful, but make sure it’s secured unless you want your wreath becoming a tumbleweed. You can be sure those sent out by Maggi Belle Posh have wired and secured ribbons and bows.

6. Sniff Test: Fresh or Faux?

Fresh wreaths like eucalyptus and pine smell amazing but won’t last forever and require care.

Faux wreaths stick around for the long haul and require zero maintenance except for minimum care tips that MBP (Maggi Belle Posh) includes in every delivery.

    7. Budget vs. Beauty

Handmade, high-quality wreaths = gorgeous, long-lasting, and totally worth it.

Mass-produced wreaths = cheaper, but may not survive a strong breeze.

If you want a wreath that lasts, invest in something unique and well-made Hint: that’s where I come in!

Final Thoughts

Your wreath is the first thing guests, neighbors and delivery drivers see-make it count!
